Flying Colours is a factory authorized Bombardier service center.

Reporting to an Operations or Department Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for the co-ordination, scheduling and activities of area-operations and of employees under the direction of a Manager.  In addition to fulfilling some technical or operational tasks on-the-job, the Supervisor is responsible for the overall performance of their Crew.

 

The Supervisor operates under general direction and is accountable for supporting the performance objectives below.  Supervisors are responsible for providing direction and coaching to Crew Leads and ensuring that the department is well organized and coordinated overall as it respects:

  • Completion Schedules (project progress against time and costing allowances and budgets)
  • Quality (snags, RFE's, human resources performance, turnaround, equipment)
  • Health and Safety (accidents, incidents, perceived or actual H&S concerns and failures)

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supervisors perform all of the functions of a Crew Leader, and in addition are responsible for the following additional or enhanced accountabilities:

  • Monitors production for each Crew under supervision and ensures optimum staff levels/shifts to achieve completion-production, quality and financial targets.
  • Monitors work-hours and approves overtime accordingly, adding additional staff when workload can support it.
  • Provide training or coaching to improve performance as required, including:
  • The interpretation of drawings and other technical information.
  • Aircraft component locations.
  • Acquiring parts or materials needed.
  • Correct tooling or techniques to be utilized.
  • Possible risks, common errors or omissions.
  • Historical information from past installations that may be helpful.
  • Ensure that documents, drawings, task cards, or other necessary information is readily available for employees who need information in order to complete assigned tasks.
  • Reviews all blueprints and project MDL's to ensure all tooling, parts, materials and other resources are ordered, organized and available prior to project commencement.
  • Prepares snags (work order control) or delegates appropriately to Crew Leaders
  • First-line accountability for department cost-budget, supporting the Department Manager's overall accountability for cost centre control.
  • Provides work-hour budgets for project completions and proposals.
  • Ensure necessary tools, equipment and supplies (including B.O.M.) items are available for assigned tasks. As the aircraft installations are completed, ensure completed Task Cards, Inspection Checklists or Snags are signed off as soon as possible.  Immediately forward all completed documents to quality/inspection representative.
  • Ensure that Lean Visual Management documents are in use and maintained by employees as tasks are completed.
  • Ensure that all information displayed on the aircraft visibility board is up to date and accurately reflects the aircraft status.
  • Inform or consult with Manager in the event that aircraft schedule or milestones are not met as committed. Notify Manager of all schedule changes.
  • Responsible for overall Staff Performance Management, including timely feedback, corrective action, annual appraisal. Provides compensation and promotion recommendations to Manager for approval.
  • Provide final approval for time off requests. Notify/consult manager only if needed.
  • Other specific duties assigned by Management.
  • Performs work in a productive, diligent, careful and safe manner.
  • Complete any special projects or other tasks as required or assigned. May be assigned to other areas of operations, based on business or customer requirements.
  • Works in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Incumbents must have technical experience in their area of specialization accompanied by several years of working experience within their classification or discipline. Supervisors must have previous leadership experience and must have the interpersonal skills to lead, manage, coach and develop others.  Other interpersonal skill requirements include:

 

  • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task and manage competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Able to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication (verbal / written) at all levels.
  • Able to interact with peers, employees and management effectively.
  • Works well under pressure.
