POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the coordination, scheduling and activities of area-operations and of employees under the direction of the Director, MRO Operations. Incumbent may fulfill some technical or operational tasks on-the-job (OJT) in addition to being responsible for the overall performance of their Crew.

The Supervisor, Avionics core objective is to (a) be responsible for providing direction and coaching to Crew Leads, for developing and executing goals specific for the department including performance driven KPIs, (b) Completion Schedules (project progress against time and costing allowances and budgets), and (c) evaluate the results to choose the best solution for the department's overall success. Your ability to assess job results effectively with clear direction through various forms of communication will empower you and your team to meet production schedules and goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Monitor any issues to ensure production targets, key performance indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the customer.

  2. Ensure that all in-process inspections and processes are being properly accomplished and documented. If applicable, utilize verbal transmission, written documentation, e-mail or voice mail to effectively communicate shift tie-ins to alternate shift supervisory personnel.

  3. Supervises all Avionics Department, Installation and MRO, personnel.

  4. Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate activities of the shop area. Verify all equipment and tools assigned to the shop area are serviceable and in working condition.

  5. Manages overall work-in-progress and makes necessary adjustments to personnel and resources.

  6. Provides technical advice and assistance to staff and customers regarding avionics sales, installations, and repair.

  7. Keeps Director, MRO Operations informed of problems and work status. Notify proper authority of any suspected unairworthy conditions found.

  8. Attend aircraft debriefings that may occur during or after the work shift; as needed. Communicate and represent the company to vendors, customers, and other functions.

  9. Communicate with upstream and downstream customers to assure aircraft schedules are being met.

  10. Participate in in-process data collection and team problem solving. Exposure to basic Continuous Improvement tools/principles 5S, Data-Driven Decision Making, Know Your Customer and Communication Boards.

  11. Maintains contacts at the management level of all major avionics equipment manufacturers in order to resolve supply problems and to keep abreast of new developments in the avionics arena.

  12. Utilize the methods set forth by the company's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual(s).

  1. Control and be responsible for the quality of the fabrication work, systems and components undergoing work and specialized services.

  2. Mastery in the use of all types of avionics installation and completion tools and processes.

  3. Lead process analysis (mapping, etc.), measurement (KPIs and Comm. Board), data analysis (Pareto etc.) and problem solving (PDCA, 5-whys, fishbone, etc.). Coach basic CI tools/principles.

  4. Work with department lead(s) to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce cost, cycle time and man-hours and other process improvement techniques.

  5. Develop action plans with results-oriented goals for measuring success.

  6. Foster positive team environment. Exposed to the concept of "servant leadership".

  7. Other duties not specifically covered herein but otherwise assigned.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE / HEALTH AND SAFETY:

This position operates in compliance with all Administrative, Emergency Response, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance policies, AS9100, and procedures as outlined in Company policy and Repair Station Manual(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:

  1. Completed training in a vocation or technical school at a college level and/or combination of education and experience. Electronics and/or Avionics training required.

  2. A minimum of 3 to 5 years in a leadership or mentorship role. Expressly displaying ability to successfully lead a team in a production environment.

  3. A minimum of 8 year's basic on aircraft avionics maintenance installations. Moderate understanding of general job aspects a plus.

  4. Completed the Repairman Certificate training in accordance with FCC Repair Station Manual.

  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of an MRP (Material Resources Planning) system strongly preferred; Corridor software a plus.

  6. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Extensive knowledge in the specialized functions of the position. Ability to solve complex problems ordinarily encountered in the process.

  2. Consistent demonstration of the tasks applicable to the entire process associated with avionics installation. Able to offer detailed verbal direction of the task(s)

  3. Basic math functions with whole numbers, decimals and fractions and the ability to know how and when to use them.

  4. Key competencies related to working with a diverse group of individuals and departments are desirable.

  5. Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.

  6. Occasional direct and indirect pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.

  7. Willing to complete on the job training (OJT) in accordance with FCC Repair Station Manual.

  8. Willing to travel domestically and internationally when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment described here is representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

The location where this position functions is in a production environment which is subject to constant exposure to loud noise, potential contact with hazardous/non-hazardous waste material and other safety hazards such as production tools, aircraft monuments, interior components: divans, chairs, other cabinets etc.
