Senior Upholstery/Trim Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible to fabricate all interior items and assembling seating units for aircraft installation.  Incumbent will demonstrate a high level of proficiency in and a meticulous work ethic in aircraft interiors, including the repair, modification, and refurbishment of aircraft seats, divans, sidewalls, flooring, overhead panels, and trim, including upholstery and reupholster panels, liners and sidewalls, to high degrees of finish quality and structural safety.

The Senior Upholstery/Trim Technician's core objective is to buildup of components and upholster interior items to ensure continued quality and timely shipments following the approved design, engineering and FAA requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish the highest quality of work performed on various interior items meets Company standards and goals to meet or improves budgeted hours/schedules.

  2. Understand and work from blueprints as well as other written instructions and design specifications.

  3. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the position and the practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

  4. Collaborate with Engineers and Crew Leads to troubleshoot engineering design discrepancies within the prints.

  5. Hand/Manually sew upholstery and/or operate sewing machines to seam cushions and join various ends of a fabric.

  6. Demonstrate complex upholstery techniques (i.e. top stitch, piping, binding, decorative stitch). Able to follow first article production example set forth by lead or master technicians.

  7. Consistently operate Multi-needle machine, leather stitching machine, piping or binding machine, Tacker or bar tack machinery with precision and accuracy.

  8. Able to make and use upholstery/trim templates with minimal to no guidance from Master Craftsman/Crew Leads.

  9. Participate in in-process data collection and team problem solving. Exposure to basic Continuous Improvement tools/principles 5S, Data-Driven Decision Making, Know Your Customer and Communication Boards.

  10. Utilize the methods set forth by the company's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual(s).

  11. Foster positive team environment and demonstrate a continual willingness to learn and serve a team member.

  12. Other duties not specifically covered herein but otherwise assigned.

This position operates in compliance with all Administrative, Emergency Response, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance policies, AS9100, and procedures as outlined in Company policy and Repair Station Manual(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:

  1. Completed training in a vocation or technical school with focus on practical upholstery, industrial sewing, working with various fabrics, seating and leather materials, etc.  Full functioning knowledge of the position with extensive comprehension of all detailed aspects.

  2. A minimum of 6 years of industrial sewing and upholstery experience required, ideally working with seating and leather materials within the aerospace/aviation industry directly related to the manufacture of custom corporate jet interior monuments.

  3. Successfully and proficiently completed a variety of work-related tasks achieving high quality standards.

  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  Working knowledge of an MRP (Material Resources Planning) system required; Corridor software a plus.

  5. Able to read engineering drawings strongly preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Consistent demonstration of several sewing and upholstery techniques.  Able to offer detailed verbal direction of various sewing and upholstery techniques.

  2. Strong mathematical knowledge is essential to make accurate measurements to complete project ensuring quality and precision.

  3. Ability to read engineering drawings.

  4. Key competencies related to working with a diverse group of individuals and departments are desirable.

  5. Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.

  6. Occasional direct and indirect pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.

  7. Willing to complete on the job training (OJT) in accordance with FCC Repair Station Manual.

  8. Willing to travel domestically and internationally when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment described here is representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

The location where this position functions is in a production environment which is subject to constant exposure to loud noise, potential contact with hazardous/non-hazardous waste material and other safety hazards such as production tools, aircraft monuments, interior components: divans, chairs, other cabinets etc.
