POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible to perform needed repairs to airframes, including sheet metal work, riveting, patching as well as some fabrication in accordance with completion specifications.  Incumbent will demonstrate a high level of proficiency in and a meticulous work ethic of sheet metal work and fabrication process of aircraft components, up to and including repairing, modifying, and fabrication of parts.

A Senior Sheetmetal Tech's core objective is to safely lay-out, fabricate and install parts equipment and fabricated items on aircraft, using the approved design, engineering, and FAA requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish the highest quality of the work performed on sheet-metal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment or fabricated to meet Company standards and goals that in turn meets or exceeds budgeted hours/schedules.

  2. A wide and comprehensive familiarity with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

  3. Collaborate with department Crew Lead(s) to troubleshoot engineering design discrepancies within the prints. Following and working from approved engineering drawings as well as other written instructions and design specifications.

  4. Ability to make tools and templates that complete the fabricated part.

  5. Foster a positive team environment and demonstrate a continual willingness to learn while serving as a team member.

  6. Participate in in-process data collection and team problem solving. Exposure to basic Continuous Improvement tools/principles 5S, Data-Driven Decision Making, Know Your Customer and Communication Boards.

  7. Utilize the methods set forth by the company's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual(s).

  8. Safely operate shop equipment such as: brakes, presses, riveting equipment, shears, and hand tools associated with sheet-metal functions. Use the proper hardware for various sheetmetal applications.

  9. Participate in in-process data collection and team problem solving. Exposure to basic Continuous Improvement tools/principles 5S, Data-Driven Decision Making, Know Your Customer and Communication Boards.

  10. Other duties not specifically covered herein but otherwise assigned.

This position operates in compliance with all Administrative, Emergency Response, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance policies, AS9100, and procedures as outlined in Company policy and Repair Station Manual(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:

  1. High School Diploma. Knowledge of sheetmetal or fabrication processes (forming, drilling, stamping, shaping, bending, punching, cutting, riveting, filing and dimpling) experience, prefer additional trade certification or education.

  2. A minimum of 5 year's basic sheetmetal or fabrication experience, preferably within the aerospace / aviation industry. Moderate understanding of general job aspects a plus.

  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  Working knowledge of an MRP (Material Resources Planning) system strongly preferred; Corridor software a plus.

  1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Basic math functions with whole numbers, decimals and fractions and the ability to know how and when to use them.

  2. Key competencies related to working with a diverse group of individuals and departments are desirable.

  3. Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.

  4. Occasional direct and indirect pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.

  5. Willing to complete on the job training (OJT) in accordance with FCC Repair Station Manual.

  6. Willing to travel domestically and internationally when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment described here is representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

The location where this position functions is in a production environment which is subject to constant exposure to loud noise, potential contact with hazardous/non-hazardous waste material and other safety hazards such as production tools, aircraft monuments, interior components: divans, chairs, other cabinets etc.
