Production Apprentice

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible to learn all facets of the shops within Monument Operations. Incumbent will gain a general knowledge of aircraft fabrication, finishing, and upholstery of aircraft monuments in accordance with the completion specifications.

A Production Apprentice's core objective is to gain the knowledge related to all techniques, tools, and processes associated with the fabrication of monuments, finishing of components, as well as upholstery of interior items to ensure continued quality and timely shipments, using the approved design, engineering, and FAA requirements.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS BY FUNCTION:

Assembly (Cabinet)

  1. Learn how to work with various wood components, high-grade veneers, composites and other light-weight materials.
  2. Become familiar with and be able to use a variety of hand tools, woodworking machinery, and CNC automation.

Finish

  1. Learn how to prepare surface to apply finishes to aircraft cabinets and components using sanders, buffers and sprays.
  2. Learn technique when using lacquer, clear coats and finishes to apply to finished product surfaces to ensure consistent application and coverage (applied by hand and/or spray equipment).
  3. Learn how to prepare surface between coats for additional finishing. Inspect for high quality, clear consistent finish result.
  4. Become familiar with and be able to use a variety of hand tools, sanding/buffing/spray machinery and taping techniques.

Assembly (Upholstery)

  1. Learn fabrication processes and techniques and solvents associated with adhering fabric to various structures.
  2. Gain knowledge on how to recover and/or repairing upholstered aircraft interiors by covering with materials such as leather or woven fabrics. Remove worn coverings, padding, and webbings as needed.
  3. Measure, trace out cut lines on fabrics using chalks, pencils, paint, or other markers for accurately cutting materials.
  4. Receive training in the foam buildup process on interior paneling, pads for various interior structures, seat cushions and other interior structures.
  5. Acquire the ability to operate various types of sewing techniques associated with the machine type (serger, skiver, etc.) to fabricate dress covers.

FAA Related Quality Control / Repair Station

  1. Learn the methods set forth by the company's Repair Station and Quality Control Manual(s).
  2. Learn to read, comprehend, and retain knowledge from engineering drawings (blueprints) as well as other written instructions and design specifications.
  3. Other duties not specifically covered herein but otherwise assigned.

The health and safety described here is representative of the requirements by an employee to protect a worker's own health and safety by working in compliance with the law as well as conducting themselves in a manner that promotes safe work practices and procedures as established by the company.

This position operates in compliance with all Administrative, Emergency Response, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance policies, AS9100, and procedures as outlined in Company policy and Repair Station Manual(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC:

  1. High School Diploma and some training in a vocational school.

  2. Up to 1 year of production experience, preferably within the aerospace / aviation industry. Moderate understanding of general job aspects a plus.

  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of an MRP (Material Resources Planning) system preferred; Corridor software a plus.

  1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Key competencies related to working with a diverse group of individuals and departments are desirable.

  2. Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.

  3. Occasional direct and indirect pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.

  4. Willing to complete on the job training (OJT) in accordance with FCC Repair Station Manual.

  5. Willing to travel domestically and internationally if required.
