Flammability Engineer

Flying Colours is a factory authorized Bombardier service center.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for creating flammability substantiation documents and developing and maintaining metallic/nonmetallic materials and fabrication processes used in the design, manufacture and certification of aircraft parts.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Flammability Engineer shall:

  • Participate in Flammability and Material/Process group in support of the design, fabrication and certification of aircraft equipment, assemblies, installations and modifications.
  • Review the engineering design package to develop test coupons to be sent to a supplier to be tested.
  • Coordinate with production to ensure as-built conditions match the engineering package and if any areas outside of engineering coverage require flammability documentation.
  • Develop, document, and maintain material and process specifications for control of metallic and composite materials.
  • Write flammability test plans and substantiation reports.
  • Follow all Health, Safety and Environment policies at all times.
  • Travel off-site for projects and extended hours on/off-site may be required periodically
  • Other specific duties assigned by supervisor or management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent or occasional periods of time are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stop or lift light material or equipment.
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area which is air conditioned or climate controlled. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion, e.g.: moderate background noise
  • Occasional to frequent need to give concentrated attention, either hearing, seeing, visualizing, drafting, to what is happening and work being performed.
  • Pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university and minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A working knowledge of aircraft certification methodologies (TC/STC), configuration control, and FAA/regulatory policy related to the position.

In addition:

  • Excellent communication, project management, and computer skills
  • Expertise in testing, risk analysis, report writing, and project management
  • Candidates must have excellent report writing, problem resolution, communication and presentation skills        
  • Knowledge of FAA 14 CFR Part 23 & Part 25 aircraft certifications requirements and the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) process
