GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Director of Interiors is responsible for executing a World Class Manufacturing Process at Flying Colours Corp.  In conjunction with the Department Supervisors in the zones under responsibility, the Director of Interiors has responsibility for all operational activities related to manufacturing at the Chesterfield Operations.  This includes product manufacturing, quality, H&S and team performance / productivity.  The Director of Interiors will also work with the senior business team to ensure the maximization of all performance objectives set for Manufacturing.

The focus of this role is the optimization of the following key Operational Objectives:

  • On-Time Deliveries: Timely Production Output in accordance with Order Book and business plans, and ultimate delivery to meet scheduling
  • Quality of Product (and components received)
  • Manufacturing Productivity / Efficiency (Productivity per Employee)
  • Cost Reduction
  • Inventory Control
  • Leadership / Team Motivation
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance
  • Sets weekly and monthly targets as appropriate to report and demonstrate progress in these areas

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Receives Orders from the Sales team and executes those orders to ensure finished product (upholstery/seating, cabinetry, paint finishing) are delivered on time, every time, according to specifications.
  • Based on the production schedule, coordinates the flow of work within or between Departments to expedite production to meet delivery dates.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resources to determine staffing levels required to meet production schedule.
  • Prioritize material and parts flow in departments and assign personnel accordingly.
  • Manage labor variances, overtime, consumables, productivity, quality, delivery to budget.
  • Expedite any parts shortages in coordination with Purchasing group.
  • Fit special orders onto the floor so as to not affect production
  • Deal with Maintenance issues setting priorities when necessary through maintenance staff.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, new procedures, or capital equipment to improve productivity or production flow.
  • Provides overall direction, guidance and hands-on leadership to Manufacturing for zones and Operational functions to maximize key supply chain metrics (Production output / order-book, purchasing, profitability, cost reduction, quality, inventory, and EHS).
  • With support from Human Resources, ensures that employees are trained, motivated and know their responsibilities for preventing or minimizing safety and security risks.
  • Coordinates annual performance management system for zones under responsibility in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Works in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.
  • Extended hours can be expected in this position.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager / Vice President

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent or occasional periods of time are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stop or lift light material or equipment.
  • Frequent need to give concentrated attention, either hearing, seeing, visualizing, drafting, to what is happening and work being performed.
  • Frequent pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands exists.
  • Deals with personnel / human resources issues including the planning, control and direction of others' work assignments.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Candidates must have significant practical Operations and Business Management experience, including:

  • Strong background in manufacturing, engineering, materials processes, lean technologies (5S / 6S) quality processes, inventory control, and manufacturing finance.
  • Strong employee relations skills.
  • Strong analytical and process skills.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Outstanding communication (oral/written) skills required.
  • Outstanding team building skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (including, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
