Business Intelligence Developer

Flying Colours Corp. is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer.  This position is located in Peterborough, ON, CA.

 

General Accountability

Reporting to the CFO, the Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for aggregating data from multiple sources in an efficient data warehouse and designing enterprise-level solutions for multidimensional databases.  The Business Intelligence Developer is considered an expert to design, plan and implement business intelligence solutions based on where the company currently is and going in their evolution.  Writing relational and multidimensional database queries and presenting the information through reports and visualizations will be the centerpiece of this position.  The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer creates and manages BI and analytic solutions that turns data into knowledge; ultimately enabling the company to make informed timely business decisions.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools)
  • Translate business needs to technical specifications
  • Debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting BI solutions
  • Creating and deploying reports
  • Configuring, deploying and maintaining database servers
  • Crafting and executing queries upon request for data
  • Create tools to store data (e.g. cubes, databases)
  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate systems
  • Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses
  • Create visualizations and reports for requested projects
  • Develop and update technical documentation

Working Conditions

  • Frequent or occasional periods of time are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stop or lift light material or equipment.
  • Office located in a comfortable indoor area which is air conditioned or climate controlled. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion, e.g.: moderate background noise levels.  But also enters and interacts in production areas.
  • Frequent need to give very concentrated attention, either hearing, seeing, visualizing, drafting, to what is happening and work being performed.
  • Frequent and on-going pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
  • Deals with personnel / human resources issues including coordinating with others on work assignments.
  • Final or next-to-final accountability for key organizational outcomes and expected results.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in information technology, BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to problem solve, proficiency with a variety of Microsoft programs and experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Minimum five years' experience in the role of a Business Intelligence Developer.
  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining.
  • In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework.
  • Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI).

Work Hours:  Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (occasional extended hours may be required)
